Instinct versus self-control
Over the course of history, humans have grown increasingly complex.Compared to the present, the past had no rules whatsoever and the homosapiens then did not have this phenomenon which is nowadays called 'consciousness'.Consciousness is that little voice which advises you on whether what you are doing is right or wrong.Whether consciousness is a natural quality bestowed on us by nature or bred in us from birth by our parents i don't know, but i do know it is there.
In the past, our ancestors relied on their instincts to survive. For example, a more than normal amount of eye white in a person was the universal sign among humans then for danger.Back then, they had no form of communication and used body language to convey messages.Hence, the above information is used by many directors of horror films to scare us.
Presently, we rely on intelligence and more importantly, self control to survive. If we were to rely on our instincts, many things would go terribly wrong and we most probably would be infringing on many of the carved in stone laws layed down by our country.
Our basic morals and principles stem from mainly our parents and culture, i believe.Humans innately mimic and adopt their parents behaviour to a very great extent. If you are observant enough, you would see this fact exploited by many famous people in the past.Hitler, for instance, wanted to wipe out the entire population of genetically damaged people to achieve a perfect race.
We constantly adopt and change to our circumstances even if it is against our own will, its as simple as that.We can get used to anything, be it the sound of gunfire ever present in Indonesia, our loved ones passing away or physical and psychological hurt.Despite the complexity of human beings in every sense, it all boils down to a simple truth.
If there is a neverending line of fire in front of us which we must get past, we all would do different things. Some would not dare to attempt to cross it due to the fear of getting hurt. Some who tried and got hurt would stop trying to get past due to the fear of failure which would lead to pain. Some would try and find a route past it.Some would die trying to get past it.The fire here represents adversity, something present in most our our lives.People of all ages, class, races face adversity. It is subjective to the person what adversity is, but i am sure everyone faces it.Most people believe adversity to be something that cannot be completely abolished from their lives.Few manage to pass the fire, and those who do simply look at the much greater, more intense fire in front of them, some with great determination, others with despair.Life is filled with several of these 'lines of fires' where at the end is what you truly desire for yourself and possibly others. Are you one of the few who will pass the fire?
